The winery consists of beautiful grounds, and first timers will totally like this place. You have to make a reservation in advance before you go when you are going at a busy time.
This winery commissioned famous San Francisco artist Agelio Batle to construct a limited-edition work of art which is inspired by the vines of the renowned To Kalon vineyard. Updated 2016 – Is there Uber or Driver Service to visit Napa Valley Wineries? A user on TripAdvisor Napa Valley Forum asks this question.
Here is the original question:
My husband and I are headed to Napa Valley in the next few weeks and are trying to decide what type of transportation we will use while we are there. We are staying in St. Helena and plan to visit various wineries in the valley. He is convinced that we will be able to Uber between wineries, but I am not so sure. Does anyone have any insight to the reliability of Uber service in and around the Napa Valley? The most recent posts I found were from spring 2014.
Below are some of the answers from various users and Destination experts on TripAdvisor
To do a day of touring wineries, I do not suggest you rely on Uber. There are not nearly enough cars to expect to get where you need to go when you need to be there. Especially if you make reservations for smaller wineries and need to be there at a certain time.
You have several options. You can hire a designated driver for YOUR car or rental car. You can do a group tour. Or you can hire a car and driver for the day.
Given the nature of the valley, I suspect Uber drivers are still thin on the ground there. Uber is a concept that works best in areas of dense population and high demand, neither of which is the Napa Valley. Perhaps you can persuade your husband by telling him that even if you can get a cell signal and find an available Uber driver in the valley, they may be 30-45 minutes away from you. It’s much more convenient to have a driver at your beck and call all day… if you finish up somewhere early, you can leave right away.
(Most people, by the way, simply rent cars and either have a designated driver or take turns tasting, or the driver tastes and spits. This is the most flexible and least expensive option. It also solves the problem of how to get to the valley if you don’t have a rental car, how to get to dinner, etc.)
Also, be sure that you are sorting your TA forum search results by ‘date’, not ‘relevance’… I’m pretty sure there have been more recent conversations about Uber, none of which I recall as being more positive.
With the true statements above – I’m also wondering what the advantage of Uber would be in such a setting?
They are ultimately a ‘taxi’ service that drops off people from point to point. They don’t help with reservations, assist with your itinerary, more than likely have no real connections with winery or vineyard owners… Also, I don’t think they want to sit and wait and hour while people do tours inside wineries. Maybe I’m wrong? Seems like Uber is definitely a SF thing, not a Wine tour operator/ wine country thing…
Tell hubby to spend a few extra bucks for a genuine Private Tour Driver! Either way, we all thank you for not drinking and driving…. a big thank you!

Beringer Vineyards & Winery

Winemaker Laurie Hook crafts classic wines from Napa’s finest appellations and Beringer’s exceptional collection of vineyards. A winemaking legacy of more than 130 years is reflected in an acclaimed portfolio of wines which are collected worldwide. The historic estate in St. Helena offers a tradition of hospitality that defines the Napa Valley. Click here to get 2 For 1 Wine Tasting Coupon from Beringer Winery & Vineyards
Beringer Vineyards & Winery is the oldest continuously operating winery in the Napa Valley, and in 2001, the estate was placed on the National Register for Historic Places as an Historic District. Jacob Beringer’s foresight in recognizing the quality and potential of grape growing in the Napa Valley is part of the living heritage of Beringer Vineyards. With the present use of state-of-the-art technology applied to age-old traditions, Beringer Vineyards’ wines continue to reflect a single-minded dedication to the making of memorable wines from great Napa Valley vineyards.
In 1971, in a push toward building the quality of its wines, Beringer hired veteran winemaker Myron Nightingale. Myron modernized the winemaking facility, bringing in temperature-controlled steel tanks and replacing the winery’s old barrels with new French oak. With long-range vision, he also insisted on upgrading and expanding the vineyards because of his belief that great wines begin on the vines.
To recognize the better quality of fruit becoming available to him, Myron began making limited production wines, including a 1973 Centennial Cabernet Sauvignon and a 1974 Centennial Chardonnay. Both wines were released in 1976 to celebrate Beringer’s 100th birthday.
Edward Sbragia joined Beringer as Myron’s assistant in 1976 and, with his mentor’s blessing, began experimenting with fermenting Chardonnay in small French oak barrels and other techniques not widely used in California at the time. And when Beringer first acquired Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from the Lemmon Ranch (later called Chabot Vineyard) in 1977, Myron and Ed knew they had the makings of a distinctive Cabernet Sauvignon in a big, rich style, and they kept the lot separate from grapes from other vineyards.
The 1978 Private Reserve was released to even greater critical acclaim. In subsequent years, Beringer has achieved a Private Reserve with every vintage. Each vintage has produced different fruits, different flavors and a different challenge to the team as they make their critical decisions about viticulture, fruit maturity, oak selection and assemblage.
Today, Laurie carries on the exemplary standard of quality, consistency and balance that the Beringer Private Reserve is known for worldwide. After over two decades producing these reserve wines, her goal remains unchanged from those that preceded her: to make the best Cabernet Sauvignon that Napa Valley can produce – an achievement that has surpassed even Jacob Beringer’s ambitious early vision for the winery.

Whitehall Lane Winery is a small, family owned winery in Napa Valley’s historic Rutherford appellation. We own approximately 140 acres of prime Valley-floor vineyards including the Leonardini Vineyard in St. Helena and are committed to making the finest Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Reserve wine.
The winery continues to receive accolades and awards for producing some of the greatest wines in the world. In Wine Spectator Magazine’s year-end ranking of wines, Whitehall Lane has been honored an unprecedented three times in five years for producing wines rated among the top five in the world. The winery has also been voted Winery of the Year from the Quarterly Review of Wines and Wine and Spirits Magazine.
Whitehall Lane was founded in 1979 but the history of the soil cultivation dates back two centuries. In the mid 1800’s, Napa Valley settlers were drawn to the deep, loamy soils and ideal climate, planting high quality grape vines at the Whitehall Lane Winery site. A barn constructed in the early 1900’s for equipment storage is still used today. In 1979, two brothers started the winery and directed their winemaking efforts successfully to Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. They named the winery after the road that runs along the south border of the property, Whitehall Lane.
In 1993, the Leonardini Family of San Francisco took control of the Whitehall Lane estate. They updated the winemaking, instituted a new barrel-aging program and continued sourcing the finest vineyards. We started with one vineyard and now own seven prime vineyards that are the cornerstone on which the wines are made and include the Whitehall Lane Estate Vineyard, Millenium MM Vineyard and Bommarito Vineyard in the Rutherford Appellation, the Leonardini Vineyard and Fawn Park Vineyard in St. Helena, Oak Glen Vineyard in the Oak Knoll District and Rassi VIneyard in Sonoma. The Estate Vineyard is 25 acres of “Rutherford Dust” offering beautiful Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc grapes. The Millenium MM Vineyard offers outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon fruit while the Bommarito Vineyard is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. The Leonardini Vineyard is 14 acres of gravely soil yielding powerful Cabernet Sauvignon fruit and elegant yet intense Merlot grapes that go into the “Leonardini Vineyard” vineyard-designated wine. The Fawn Park Vineyard is on a gentle slope of Eastern hillside and produces intense Cabernet Sauvignon. The 25-acre Oak Glen Vineyard produces flavorful Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.
In our short history, Whitehall Lane has developed into a world-class winery. The efforts of the Leonardini Family are evident in the recent run of accolades from wine publications but are even more apparent in the beautifully made, elegant wines we continue to make.
